Eileen – Red Thread Collection
This shirt is in honour of my Nana, Eileen. A name meaning “bright, shining one” or “light.” And that’s exactly what she was, the woman who filled my childhood with warmth, laughter and the glow of home.
Eileen was cheeky, with a sparkle in her eye and a little touch of high-class ambition. With honesty on her tongue, she taught me that authenticity is the best medicine. I have core memories of her and I making scones, working the butter into flour with our hands. Of making that butter with the cream, fresh from the cow I’d milked with my Papa. How tomato jam on wholemeal toast is the biggest, warmest hug, and how to pour tea as though it were love itself.
Her kitchen was the heart of her home & family, her hands forever mixing, stirring, kneading. And yet, what she really gave me were the things that couldn’t be cooked or bottled: strength, cheek, honesty and the reminder that love is found in everyday moments. Holding hands, hugs, humour and heart.
This shirt carries her name because it carries her spirit – practical yet beautiful, stitched with memory and made to be lived in. Crafted from 140 GSM soft cotton/linen the lilac and white plaid mirrors those gentle kitchen moments. Floral accents on the cuffs, placket and collar weave in the story of Elfreda, my paternal grandmother because both women are part of me and both are stitched into this collection.
Eileen is more than fabric and thread. It’s grace, light and lineage – a reminder that the women before us still walk beside us, guiding, teaching and weaving their love through every stitch.
This piece is dedicated to the thread I share with Nana.
